IELTS Writing: It is important for everyone including young people to save money

It is important for everyone, including young people, to save money for their future.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Nowadays, personal financial planning is gaining increasing attention in modern society. However, whether saving money should be a priority for all people, especially the younger generation, remains a topic of debate. My view is that while saving money is indeed crucial for future security, it should be encouraged in a balanced and practical way rather than enforced blindly.

First, it is obvious that developing the habit of saving from an early age can help individuals build a more secure future. This is because life is full of uncertainties, such as job loss, illness, or unexpected expenses. By setting aside part of their income, young people can better handle emergencies without falling into debt. Furthermore, long-term savings can also support important life goals, such as higher education, buying a house or starting a business. As a result, learning to save money becomes not only a financial skill, but also a preparation for adult responsibility.

Moreover, actually, saving can coexist with enjoying life at a young age. For example, instead of spending all their earnings on luxury items or entertainment, young individuals can learn to budget their money wisely—setting limits on spending, avoiding unnecessary purchases, and choosing cost-effective alternatives. If financial education is included in schools, and if families encourage smart saving habits, the younger generation will be more financially independent and confident in the long term.

That is not to say that young people should be discouraged from spending at all. In fact, moderate and planned spending can also lead to valuable experiences, such as travelling, learning new skills, or socialising—all of which are part of personal development. The key point is not to sacrifice happiness today for the sake of distant security, but rather to find a healthy balance between saving for the future and living in the present.

In sum, saving money is indeed an important habit that benefits people of all ages, especially in an unpredictable world. While young people should not be pressured to save excessively at the cost of enjoying their youth, they should be guided to manage their finances wisely. Only in this way can they grow into responsible adults while maintaining a positive and fulfilling lifestyle.
