Nowadays, media plays a crucial role in shaping public opinion and delivering news across the globe. My view is that this phenomenon results from both commercial and political influences, but it can be improved through greater transparency and stricter regulation.
First, it is obvious that the rise of media bias is closely linked to commercial pressure. This is because many media companies rely heavily on advertising income and viewer ratings, and therefore may deliberately present sensational or one-sided stories to attract public attention. As a result, the focus shifts from delivering balanced information to producing content that entertains or provokes strong emotional responses, even if this means distorting the facts.
Moreover, actually, political interference can also contribute to the growing bias in media coverage. For example, in some countries, news agencies may be directly or indirectly controlled by the government or powerful interest groups. These organisations may push specific agendas by influencing how stories are reported or which issues receive attention. If journalists are not free to report objectively, the public will receive a narrow or manipulated version of the truth.
That is not to say that media bias is an unfixable problem. One solution is to encourage independent journalism and support non-profit news organisations that are not driven by commercial motives. In addition, governments and media associations can introduce stricter rules on news reporting, including requirements for transparency, source verification, and fact-checking. If the media industry is held accountable and the audience is educated to think critically, the trust in journalism can be gradually rebuilt.
In sum, the increasing bias in media coverage mainly results from financial interests and political influence. While it may be difficult to eliminate all forms of bias, steps such as promoting independent media, enforcing journalistic standards, and raising public awareness can help ensure that news remains a reliable tool for information and education. Only by doing so can the media regain its credibility and continue to serve society responsibly.
