Environmental problems are serious in many countries. It means that the only possible way to protect the environment is at an international level. To what extent do you agree or disagree on this hypothesis?
Nowadays, environmental protection has become an unavoidable issue every country has to face. However, whether only international cooperation is the essential way to tackle is a controversial topic. My view is that the multinational cooperation is the preferred option under some circumstances, whereas single national effort is also indispensable.
First, it is obvious that many environmental challenges, such as air pollution, global warming, energy crisis, have regional or global implication, and can therefore only be addressed through joint efforts by international communities. It is only feasible to do when several related countries meet together, reach agreement, and set up international standard for environmental protection. So, as long as the pollutants come across the borders, the most successful way is bound to the international synergy.
Moreover, communication between nations means that it provides a platform for people to create and spread expertise knowledge, as well as sharing respective resources. For instance, to solve the deforestation crisis in Amazon River, several countries in South America meet regularly to exchange the knowledge between varied farmers, authorities and wooden organisations. Massive resources, which include information, financial support, experts, are easily obtained at times of cooperation.
That is not to say that national efforts alone are indifferent. It is undeniable that there are also some practices that can be taken by the country on its own, like encouraging low carbon economy, exploiting renewable energies such as wind, hydro and solar powers. These efforts not only can significantly reduce the amount of contaminations discharged into surroundings, but sometimes can even be parts of multinational strategies.
In sum, cooperating together to save our earth has become the agreement between countries; whereas, the sustainable policy has also been highlighted within each nation. Only by doing so can we ensure that we will set up an optimal and effective solution.
