The best way to solve the world’s environmental problems is to increase the price of fuel. To what extent do you agree or disagree? Use your own experience and give an example to support your ideas.
Nowadays, the environmental degradation has become an unavoidable issue every country has to face. However, whether rising the gasoline price will dramatically solve it remains a controversial topic. My view is that it is certainly a preferable option by governments, but other approaches are badly needed for a more sustainable future.
First, it is obvious that increasing the price of gas will eventually transfer the added cost to the whole society, and thus make prices of all commodities skyrocketed, or even cause inflation. For example, in China, with gas price soaring and stagnant salary growth, this policy acts as a disincentive to the well-being of every ordinary people, because they will pay more than before to buy the same things. So, the policy will negatively affect the economic development, which will, in turn, place governments in a dilemma.
Moreover, other reasonable and eco-friendly policies, including encouraging fuel-efficient vehicles, promoting renewable energies, will also help tackle the environmental damages while boosting the economic development rapidly. In many countries, tough emission standards have been set up, as well as wind, hydro and solar powers are deployed as the energy sources. If more and more low carbon strategies are disseminated throughout the world, we will not even need to worry about the exhaustion of fuel.
That is not to say that rising the price of fuel is not as important as others. At least, it will effectively reduce the amount of oil used, and raise the public’s green awareness. But, to be honest, it is a thoughtless solution.
In sum, increasing the price of gas seems to be a typical lazy administration of authorities; meanwhile, governments should move forwards and help make a breakthrough in the technology. Only by doing so can we ensure that we will have an optimal win-win solution beneficial to environment and production.
