In modern society, fashion is becoming more highly valued in people’s choice of clothes. Why? Do you think it is a positive or negative development?
Nowadays, more and more people are dressing stylishly. However whether this trend will have positive or negative impact on the society remains a controversial issue. I agree with the view that this phenomenon is primarily due to the basic human needs, and will definitely have some influences to our communities.
First, it is obvious that pursuing fashionable trend is derived from human nature in all stages of human development. This is mainly because dressing has been playing an essential role in human’s self-expression, reflecting characters, tastes and likes, and more importantly, it can be associated with the people’s social status and wealth. Therefore, the obsession about vogue can be found since the ancient time all over the world.
Moreover, being fashionable can be healthy to individuals. It is natural for us to look good due to the fact that if we feel good we will feel comfortable and self-confident. This is critically important in the current competitive world where one can win only with respect and self-esteem.
That is not to say that we could blindly follow fashion without limitation because leading a much fashionable life will bring detrimental impact on the environment. If we buy many luxurious clothes that we do not actually need, or wear once and discard, we will indeed live in a throw-away society in which we will waste a sheer volume of natural resources and put great pressure on surroundings. This is terribly bad for a sustainable economic growth.
In sum, it is not wrong to dress decently in the street; meanwhile, people should achieve a balance regarding how fashionable to be. Only by doing so can we ensure that we will live in a beautiful and healthy world.
