Some feel that individuals today spend too much time following political news while others feel politics deserves greater attention.
Discuss both sides and give your own opinion.
Nowadays, more and more people are actively engaging in political discussions and following news related to government and international affairs. However, whether this growing interest is excessive or necessary remains a controversial issue. My view is that while politics should not dominate everyday life, a reasonable degree of political awareness is indeed beneficial for individuals and society.
First, it is obvious that some people spend an overwhelming amount of time consuming political news, often leading to stress or bias. This is because modern media, including television and social platforms, constantly bombard audiences with political updates, debates and scandals. As a result, some individuals become overly absorbed, neglecting other important aspects of life such as family, work or mental well-being. Furthermore, constant exposure to negative or polarised news may foster anxiety, anger or even social division.
Moreover, actually, critics argue that an obsession with politics does not always translate into meaningful action. For example, while some people are vocal online about political issues, they may rarely participate in real-life civic duties such as voting, volunteering or policy-making. In this way, excessive attention to political content can lead to a passive form of engagement without bringing positive change.
That is not to say that political awareness is unimportant. On the contrary, understanding how political systems work helps citizens make informed decisions, hold leaders accountable and protect their rights. For instance, in times of social unrest or economic crisis, people who are aware of the laws and policies are better prepared to respond appropriately. Additionally, by staying informed, citizens can contribute to public discourse and support improvements in areas like education, healthcare or climate change.
In sum, while excessive focus on political news can be mentally draining and occasionally unproductive, a certain level of political attention is necessary for building a responsible and informed society. Only by striking a balance between political interest and personal well-being can we ensure both democratic participation and a healthy life.
